Inter Religious consultation meeting Lomé, Togo.
On April, 28 2016, at the Headquarters of the Eastern Sahel Union Mission was held the consultation meeting of the main Religious Confession of Togo.
The meeting initiated and sponsored by the African Religious Leaders’ Council- Religion for Peace, was held in Lomé, Republic of Togo and had as facilitator, Pastor Emmanuel Kra, Director of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty of the Eastern Sahel Union Mission. For this occasion, a special guess was invited in the person of Doctor Francis Kuria, General Secretary of the African Religious Leaders’ Council, who came along the way from Nairobi, Kenya where is located the headquarters of this organization. Attended this meeting, the representative of the Muslim Union of Togo, the Secretary of the Episcopal Conference, the Secretary of the Christian council, the President of the Celestial Church and the President of the Seventh-day Adventists Mission of Togo.
The aim of this gathering was to create, as it is in Bénin, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and in 26 other countries in Africa, a framework for dialogue and an inter-denominational fellowship in Togo. In his address, Pastor Kra stressed on the necessity and the urgency of such a meeting, because it allows religious to come together and improve understanding, tolerance and maintain a frantic dialogue between religious. This can facilitate according to him, a pacific co-existence between people and help avoiding intolerance as well as religious extremism that seem to threaten our societies.
Doctor Kuria described the role that plays the African Religious Leaders’ Council which is to maintain peaceful environment, unity and then promote African development. This Pan African Organization is composed of African Religious Leaders whose objective is to work for sustainable peace and the welfare of the population.
To bring this meeting to an end, a committee was put in place in order to lead in establishing the first regulations that will guide henceforth this Pan African Religious Organization.
