The Executive Committee of Eastern Nigeria Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria has joined well-meaning Nigerians and other Christians in prayers for divine intervention for the safety and peaceful release of the Secondary School Girls in Chibok in Borno State held by the members of the Boko Haram sect since April 14, 2014.
At its one-day emergency meeting held at the Church's headquarters in Aba today to review the position of the Church on a number of issues and to pray for the release of the kidnapped girls, the committee felt the grief of the parents of the abducted girls and the unimaginable trauma the girls have been subjected to, arising from their abduction.
The Church appealed to the leaders and members of the Boko Haram sect to show mercy, step down their anger and release the innocent young girls to rejoin with their parents.
Speaking during the prayer session, the president of the Church in Eastern Nigeria Union Conference, Pastor/Dr Bassey Udoh expressed concern over the plight of the abducted young girls stressing that the entire Church community is worried about the lingering incidence and cannot fold its hands but to lend voice to the clarion call nationwide for the peaceful release of the school girls.
Pastor Udoh, called and encouraged Christians everywhere, Adventists in particular to keep on interceding for (1. the peaceful release of these young children alive without any ransom, (2. peace of mind for their families, and 3.) unusual wisdom for the government as they continue in the negotiation with the leaders and members of the Boko Haram sect.
The clergyman further appealed to the Boko Haram sect to respect the sanctity of life because only God could create life and therefore, everybody has the right to live peacefully with his neighbor without rancor or bitterness no matter how highly provoked. He maintained that the peaceful and unconditional release of the innocent school girls remains the part of honor and does not in any way show cowardice or weakness.
